Hijab True story from sister Mum At Work
For many years iv wanted to wear a hijab, but i live in a very small town, with a very small Asian community, only a handful of women wore a hijab, my family has never worn one, tho they wear scarves on their heads, (Pakistani style), one morning just before my school run i stood in front of the mirror and put my scarf on round my head, i felt soo much happiness, i didnt know why. I went to school, people gave me funny looks i smiled and said hello, and they smiled back. During the week alot of women talked more to me, i knew i made the right decision…the following week a few more Asian ladies started wearing the hijab…but at home my husband asked me, why are you taking the kids to the cinema, why are you going out to the park, your wearing a hijab, i was asked why are you going to a friends house for a birthday party your wearing a hijab, did my life end now i was wearing a hijab??…it was confusing.
I realized, hijab does NOT change you, it changes others….be yourself and people see past the scarf, colleagues at work were very reserved with me, however, when they saw that i was still the old person, (maybe a little more reserved with her jokes), they grew to understand and respect me.
Its not easy wearing a hijab with all the media hype about muslims, but remember why you wore it in the first place, your a much better person in Allahs eyes, forget about everyone else ..
